BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Director and Co-Founder
Bruce Douglas
Bruce is a retired Family Practice physician having spent 35 years in private practice with a group of
seven Christian doctors in the suburbs of Portland, Oregon. Bruce and his wife, Debbie, have been
married 45 years, and have four children and 12 grandchildren. Since 1997, Bruce has made 14 mission
trips to Africa, initially as part of medical teams, and later partnering with a church in Uganda that had
started an orphan village for displaced and vulnerable children. Bruce co-founded Ukids in 2006, and has
since lead teams to Uganda to build facilities and care for the people of Uganda. Bruce has spent 31
years in church leadership, and remains active in church. Bruce enjoys fishing, farming, bird watching,
and spending time with his grandchildren.
Co-Founder
Debbie Douglas
Debbie Douglas helped co-found Ukids in 2006, and her passion lies in praying for, serving, and sharing
Jesus with children and women in Uganda. She has been married to her husband, Bruce, for 45 years,
and has been serving with him in Africa since 1999, specifically as a leader of Bible school for children
and a mentor and Bible study leader for women. Her joy lies in relationships with Jesus, family, family in
Uganda, sisters in the Lord, and friends and partners in ministry. She is thankful to her mom and
stepmom who mentored her and gave her a heart for opening her home and heart to vulnerable kids,
women’s Bible study, and praying at all times with all kinds of prayer. She has spent many years in
Church leadership, specifically in women’s Bible study, prayer ministry, and children’s ministry. In her
spare time, Debbie loves playing with and praying for her 12 grandchildren.
Co-Founder
Mark Gosvener
Mark is a co-founder of Efficiency Services Group, LLC, an energy consulting company based out of
Hillsboro, Oregon. He sold his company in 2013, and is currently working part time as Senior Vice
President. He is on the home stretch of a 43-year career in energy efficiency, in which he won a Lifetime
Achievement Award for his contribution to the industry. Mark and his wife, Susan, have been married 43
years, and have three children and four grandchildren. Mark and Susan co-led their first team to Uganda
in 2007. Since then, they have led many teams to Uganda, returning 20 times to continue Ukids work
with orphans, vulnerable children, and those that care for them. Mark and Susan’s work currently
emphasizes helping older children and young adults as they pursue their higher education, learn trades,
and establish themselves as independent adults. Mark is an elder in his church, and enjoys working
around his two-acre farm and any tasks that require his John Deere tractor.
Co-Founder
Susan Gosvener
Susan has had many roles over the years, her favorites of which have been wife, mother, and
grandmother. She has also worked in various different jobs, including an eight-year stint as Office
Manager for Mark’s company, Efficiency Services Group. After numerous attempts, Susan officially
retired from full time work in 2013 where she has since poured herself into her family and ministry.
Susan and her husband, Mark, have been married 43 years, and have three children (all of whom have
served with them in Uganda) and four grandchildren. Since 2007, Susan and Mark have returned to
Uganda 20 times. Susan has been invaluable in planning and managing the multitude of logistics and
moving parts needed to recruit, prepare, transport and coordinate the many teams (totaling hundreds
of people) that Ukids has taken to Uganda over the years. In the midst of the busyness of coordinating,
she consistently found time to pour God’s love into the many children and mums served by Ukids,
earning her the title “Mama Susan” to children and adults alike. In her spare time, Susan likes to read,
garden, and spend time with her family and grandchildren.
Board Member
Anna Fischer
Anna Fischer joined the team for her first trip to Uganda in 2009. In the years since, she has seen much
of the country, and built many lasting relationships. While Anna adores her time with the people of
Uganda, she has learned that using her voice at home is also important. She cares greatly about
advocating to help end extreme poverty and preventable diseases here in the states as well as abroad.
Between her experience in Uganda and her advocacy work at home, she has found her best balance,
and that each experience informs the other. Anna is happily married, and she and her husband enjoy a
healthy lifestyle with as much adventure as they can find.
Director of Student Education
Zion Batamuliza
Zion is an important member of the Ukids team. She is a certified teacher with a degree from
Namasagali University. She acts as mentor, mother, and life coach to the young people supported by
Ukids, helping them to put together an education plan, budget, and life goals. She receives all Ukids
funds related to student education, and directly pays student university tuition and related costs, and
monthly living allowances to students.
Bookkeeper
Erin Douglas
Erin is a certified bookkeeper with over 10 years of bookkeeping experience. She holds a bachelor’s
degree in English Literature from the University of Portland. She loves Jesus and has spent many years
serving in children’s ministry at church. She is an Oregon native and lives in Clackamas with her husband
of 14 years and two children. In her spare time she enjoys reading, writing, crocheting and embroidery.
